Sonar ● tropical bass party 3/11 playlist (Youtube)

17/10/2018

The music we collect is carefully selected on its dance pedigree and complexity of influences and variety of rhythms. Dancing is the very core of our events. It is not wobbling on endless repeating beats. It’s not waiting till the dj drops a radio hit with a recognizable tune to suddenly go wild. It isn’t shining in front of a photographer’s lens with your whitest teeth either.

This playlist is dedicated to southern dance rhythms, preparing for the Sonar ● tropical bass party on 3 november. For full content and quality, listen to the Spotify version or Deezer version. Some mixtapes are shared on mixcloud.

Sonar ● the African cumbia connection (mnsr zér0)

03/06/2018

Gent based dj mnsr zér0 is part of the binair01 music selection team and hosts the Sonar and Partyzani booth. His mix digs deep into #planetmusic and connects Latin cumbia with one of its multiple origins: African rhythms. The Sonar party editions focus on all the latest evolutions of contemporary, innovative and extremely catchy party music from the South.

Once a year the Sonar whale strikes De Centrale with an extended XL version, adding live bands to the party concept.

20:45 - 21:35 / Kolonel Djafaar live at Sonar XL

29/04/2018

The basis of Kolonel Djafaar's sound is afrobeat and ethio-jazz, a unique fusion of traditional (West-)African rhythms, highlife and Afrofunk, Soul and Latin influences. The new 9-headed instrumental band creates from these rich ingredients a solid, atmospheric set floating on catchy dance music. The result leaves us no room for doubt: right away after their formation they won the ‘podiumprijs Jonge Wolven’ at the latest Gentse Feesten.

22:00 - 23:00 / La Negra Albina live at Sonar XL

28/04/2018

La Negra Albina is a quartet consisting of Chilean, Peruvian and Venezuelan musicians. Their music mingles up afro-Colombian cumbia with Brazilian samba and Spanish rumba, finding a perfect balance between warm, intimate chanting and whipping dance rhythms with the added sound colour of cajón and trumpet. This concert presents their new singer, Yoyo Borobia from Venezuela.

23:00 - 3:00 / Rocky Marsiano + mnsr zér0 at Sonar XL

27/04/2018

DJ, MC and producer Marko Mars Roca's latest project 'Rocky Marsiano & Meu Kamba Sound' adds to his Brazilian heritage a colourful voyage through Angolan, Cape Verdean and Mozambique rhythms – for a good reason three former African Portuguese colonies. For the very first time in Gent, he’ll fire up the party dancefloor after the two concerts at the side of resident binair01 dj Mnsr Zéro. Get ready for some thrilling diverse cross-over party music à l’Afric!

The dj-set by mnsr zér0 at binair01 ● colorCalor ● on 14.10.16 starts with some slow (electro)cumbia tunes and increases the speed in one long beatmatch mix until it hits some uptempo balkan & afrodance partytracks.

The tracks, often edited, have been manually live mixed in a mixtape representing the atmosphere at a typical binair01 party.
